  • To choose delicious and non-stringy taro, first you should select tubers that are moderate in size, have a round shape, rough skin, and still have many roots and dirt attached.
  • For taro, you should prioritize choosing tubers with many eyes and depressions; the more eyes the taro has, the more sticky and fragrant it will be.
  • You should not choose very small taro tubers because they often have a bland taste and can cause itching. Additionally, you should also avoid choosing very large tubers with smooth skin, as these are usually fibrous and bland.

  • Prepare the ingredients

    First, wear plastic gloves and use a knife to peel off the skin of the taro, then soak it in diluted salt water for about 3 – 5 minutes to reduce the sap, then rinse with water.

    Next, cut the taro into small round slices about 1/2 finger thick. Depending on your preference, you can cut them into round slices or long pieces!

    • Method 1: Wash the dirt on the outside of the taro, then put the taro in a pot with water and a little salt. Place the pot on the stove and boil on high heat. Finally, take the taro out and soak it in cold water, then start peeling.

    Prepare a bowl, and gradually add to the bowl a mixture of: 2 tablespoons of batter mix, 2 teaspoons of sugar, 1/2 tablespoon of clean water, and 2 teaspoons of white sesame.

    Use a spoon to stir well until the sugar dissolves and the ingredients blend together into a liquid batter.

    Place a pan on the stove, add 200ml of cooking oil into the pan and heat over medium flame until the oil is hot.

    When the oil starts to bubble, dip each slice of taro into the prepared flour mixture to ensure the flour coats the taro evenly, then place the taro into the pan to fry.

    While frying, you must frequently flip the cake to ensure it cooks evenly and turns golden on both sides. Once the cake is golden and crispy, remove it to a wire rack to drain excess oil or onto a plate to let it drain, and it’s done.
