  • Prepare the apples

    First, rinse the apples with water and then rub the outside skin with salt, then rinse thoroughly with water. Cut the apples into small cubes, removing the seeds.

    Put all the cut apples into the pot along with 350g of brown sugar and 400ml of water. Then simmer on medium heat for about 30 minutes until the sugar dissolves completely and the apples soften.

  • Prepare the apples

    After washing the apples clean, peel them, then cut the apples into strips or you can use a grater to shred the apples into small pieces and put everything into a bowl.

  • Soak the apples with sugar

    Add 250gr of sugar, 1 cinnamon stick, and 250ml of filtered water to the bowl of cut apples, and mix everything well. Then cover the bowl tightly and let it soak for 1 hour for the apples to absorb the flavor.

    Put the apple mixture into a pan and cook on the stove over medium heat until the mixture boils. At this point, the apple strands have softened and stuck together, you turn off the heat and proceed to strain the liquid while discarding the apple pulp.

    To make the syrup thicker, you proceed to boil the strained liquid again. Pour the apple liquid into a pot and cook over medium heat for about 15 minutes until the liquid boils and thickens slightly, then turn off the heat and let it cool.

How to choose good crunchy apples

  • Observe the exterior of the apple; good apples will have a deep red color and be evenly colored. If there are few spots and the skin is slightly rough and white, the apple will be sweeter. Conversely, if the apple is shiny, evenly colored, and has a yellow patch, it will be a bit sour.
  • Hold the apple in your hand; if it feels heavy and firm, and lightly squeezing it doesn’t cause any dents, then the apple is definitely crisp. Good, ripe apples will have a distinctly stronger aroma than those that are not fully ripe.
  • Additionally, you can look at the apple’s stem; if the stem is green and fresh, then the apple is certainly fresh and crunchy.

How to preserve apple syrup

  • After making the apple syrup, you do not need to store it in the refrigerator, just keep it in a cool place; otherwise, the syrup will thicken due to water evaporation.
