Shrimp 700 gr (medium size) Fresh coconut water 350 ml Garlic and onion a little (minced) Dried chili a little Fish sauce 1.5 tablespoons Cooking oil 2 tablespoons Seasoning powder 2 tablespoons Sugar 3 tablespoons Salt 1 teaspoon Pepper a little

How to choose fresh and delicious shrimp

  • First, when choosing shrimp, you should select those that are fresh with a transparent shell and a slight smell of the sea, not fishy.
  • You should not buy shrimp that have inconsistent colors, with many dark patches on the body.
  • You should also avoid shrimp that, when lifted, show slimy leakage and have bodies that are bent into a circular shape instead of being straight as usual.
  • In addition, fresh shrimp usually have their tails folded together. If the tails are spread out, it means the shrimp have been injected with chemicals or water to make them plump.

How to prepare Coconut Water Pepper Shrimp

  • Preparing the shrimp

    After buying the shrimp, cut off the head and tail, then wash them thoroughly with water and let them drain completely before cooking.

    How to clean shrimp without a fishy smell
    • To eliminate the fishy smell of shrimp, you can use diluted salt water and wash the shrimp after removing the head and tail.
    • In addition to diluted salt water, you can mix sugar with a little white wine and soak the shrimp for about 1 – 2 minutes. After that, wash the shrimp thoroughly; this method will help you remove the unpleasant smell of shrimp.
    • You also need to note that after washing the shrimp, you must let them drain before cooking. Otherwise, any excess water left will also cause the shrimp to smell bad.

  • Sautéed Shrimp

    First, you heat a pan on the stove, add 2 tablespoons of cooking oil, and sauté the garlic and onion over medium heat for about 30 seconds.

    Next, you add all the shrimp and stir until the shrimp gradually turns orange.

    Then, you add about 1.5 – 2 tablespoons of seasoning powder, 1 teaspoon of salt, 3 tablespoons of sugar, a little pepper, chili powder, and 1.5 tablespoons of fish sauce. Stir well to let the shrimp absorb the seasoning.

    Once the shrimp is evenly coated with the seasoning, add 350ml of fresh coconut water and cook until the liquid reduces.

    While waiting for the liquid to reduce, remember to stir frequently to prevent the shrimp from burning.

    After the shrimp has reduced, add a little pepper, stir well, and turn off the heat!

    Tip: When adding coconut water, wait for the liquid to thicken a bit before adjusting the seasoning to suit your taste, as it will be difficult to season again if the liquid reduces too much!
