Ingredients for Hông Jackfruit For 2 people

Ripe jackfruit, whole pieces 1 kg Grated coconut 500 g Roasted peanuts 500 g Roasted peanuts 500 g Shallots 4 bulbs Common spices 1 little (salt/sugar/seasoning powder/pepper/fish sauce) Cooking oil 1 tablespoon Green onions 1 little

How to Prepare Jackfruit Seeds

  • Remove the Jackfruit Seed

    Make a vertical cut on the jackfruit segment and take out the seed. Be careful to keep the jackfruit segment intact.

    Continue to peel off the outer membrane surrounding the seed to retrieve the seed itself.

  • Boil the Jackfruit Seed

    Add water and jackfruit seeds into a pot and cook until the skin of the seed cracks.

    Once the seeds are cooked, remove them to cool and then peel off the skin.

  • Crush the Jackfruit Seed

    Place the peeled jackfruit seeds in a bowl and use a pestle to crush them. This process does not take much effort and time because boiled jackfruit seeds are very soft.

    Wait for the oil to heat up, then add the shallots and stir well, continue adding the crushed jackfruit seeds and some grated coconut to sauté for fragrance.

    After about 1 minute, season with sugar, seasoning powder, a little salt, and fish sauce.

    Stir the jackfruit seeds until they absorb the seasoning, then add finely chopped green onions and turn off the heat.

  • Stuff jackfruit seed filling into jackfruit segments

    Use a spoon to stuff the filling into the jackfruit segments similar to how you would stuff filling into bitter melon.

    If your home doesn’t have any tools to assist in steaming, you just need to add water to a large pot, place a small bowl in the middle of the pot, then put the jackfruit on top and cover it to steam.

    If you have a rice cooker with a steaming tray or a dedicated steamer, everything will be much easier.

    Note:

    • Should only steam jackfruit for about 30 minutes or less.
    • Steaming too quickly or too long will cause the jackfruit to be either not soft and sweet enough or too mushy.

    Steamed jackfruit is best served with grated coconut and crushed peanuts sprinkled on top.
