How to bake sponge cake using a microwave

  • Mix the cake batter

    Put 50g of butter into a medium-sized bowl, add 50g of sugar and beat until the butter lightens in color and the sugar dissolves completely.

    Next, add 1/2 teaspoon of baking powder, 50g of all-purpose flour, 1 chicken egg, and 2 tablespoons of unsweetened fresh milk.

    Mix continuously for about 10 minutes until the ingredients are well combined and the mixture is smooth.

    Tip: You can use a mixer to mix the batter, but since the portion is not large, you can mix by hand.

  • Pour the batter into the mold

    Use a pastry brush to evenly spread butter on the cake mold, or you can apply non-stick oil, then scoop the batter mixture to fill half of the mold.

    Tap the cake mold to release any trapped air bubbles. Next, use plastic wrap to cover it, leaving one edge of the mold slightly open to allow steam to escape.

  • Baking the cake

    Place the cake in the microwave at high power for 1 minute to 1 minute and 30 seconds. If the time is too short, the cake will be wet on the outside of the crust; if left too long, the cake will be crispy and crumble.

    Additionally, it is better to bake each cake individually.

    Tip: You should experiment frequently to find the appropriate time for the power of your microwave.

  • Final product

    After the cake is cooked, remove the wrap and turn it upside down, tapping the cake out of the mold. The cake usually comes out of the mold very easily when baked this way, but if it doesn’t, you can use a knife to cut around the edge of the mold.

    You can enjoy the cake with anything you like, such as adding some jam, whipped cream, fresh fruit, or peanut butter, all of which are great. Alternatively, you can simply cut some strawberries and decorate the cake with a bit of whipped cream.
