How to make Crispy Fried Squid

  • Prepare the squid

    Fresh squid purchased should be cleaned by removing the internal organs, then rub with a little salt and rinse thoroughly with water, then drain.

    Cut the squid’s tentacles and slice the squid body into bite-sized pieces. Add 1/3 teaspoon of salt and a little pepper to the squid on the plate, mix well and let the squid marinate for about 15 – 20 minutes.

  • Coat the squid with flour

    Crack 1 egg into a bowl and whisk it with chopsticks. At the same time, prepare a separate bowl of crispy frying flour.

    Dip each slice of squid in a layer of egg, then roll it in a layer of crispy frying flour.

  • Fry the squid

    Preheat the air fryer to 180 degrees Celsius for about 10 minutes.

    Place a layer of parchment paper at the bottom of the tray, then arrange the coated squid in it. Next, spray a thin, even layer of cooking oil over the squid.

    Put the squid tray into the air fryer, set the temperature to 180 degrees Celsius, and fry for about 15 minutes until the squid turns golden.

    Tip: During frying, if you find that the squid is not evenly golden and too dry, you can spray another layer of oil and fry for an additional 3 – 5 minutes for the squid to become evenly golden!

    Transfer the squid to a plate, then garnish with herbs if desired. The fried squid is delicious and meets the requirements when each piece is golden and crispy, with a crunchy shell blending perfectly with the fresh and rich sweet flavor of the squid inside.

    With this dish, you can dip it with chili sauce, ketchup, or sweet and sour fish sauce, all of which are absolutely wonderful!

How to prepare Fried Squid

  • Prepare the squid

    First, with 3 tube squids you bought, remove the backbone from the body, and use your hands to squeeze out the beak at the head.

    Then, take a little salt and rub it over the entire surface of the squid for 3 – 5 minutes, then rinse several times with clean water, drain, and use a knife to cut into bite-sized pieces.

    After preparing the squid, crack 1 chicken egg into a bowl and use a spoon to beat the egg well.

    Next, slowly pour the beaten egg into a bowl of crispy flour, while continuously stirring with a spoon to prevent the mixture from clumping.

    Finally, when the mixture becomes smooth, add 1/3 teaspoon of salt, and stir well one more time.

    Then, you sequentially use chopsticks to pick up each sliced squid and dip it into the bowl of crispy flour, followed by the bowl of breadcrumbs, and then place it into the air fryer lined with parchment paper.

    Keep doing this until you finish all the squid tubes!

    Once the ingredients are ready, you need to preheat the air fryer to 180 degrees for 10 minutes.

    At the same time, take a spray bottle and evenly spray 2 teaspoons of oil over the entire surface of the squid tubes. Then, carefully place the baking tray into the fryer and bake at 180 degrees Celsius for about 15 minutes.

    When you see that the squid is golden brown on both sides, turn off the fryer, slowly transfer the squid to a plate, and enjoy.

    Tip: During the baking process, if you find the squid too dry, you can spray a little more oil!

  • You should avoid buying squid that is too soft and mushy, as well as those that are slimy and emit an unusual fishy odor, as these are signs that the squid has spoiled due to being kept for too long.

How to Clean Squid Without a Fishy Smell

  • Method 1: The simplest and most common method, you can take some salt and rub it on the surface of the squid for a few minutes.
  • Method 2: Additionally, you can marinate the squid with a little sesame oil or white wine, which not only eliminates the fishy smell but also enhances the flavor of the squid.
  • Method 3: Alternatively, you can briefly blanch the squid in boiling tea water for 5 to 7 minutes.
