How to make tapioca pearls from tapioca flour

  • Mix the flour

Add 3 tablespoons of tapioca flour, 1 tablespoon of sugar, and 1.5 tablespoons of green tea powder into a bowl. If you prefer it sweeter, you can add more sugar. Then use a spoon to mix well so that the mixture blends together.

Next, add about 3 tablespoons of boiling water to the flour in the bowl and use a spoon to stir well to dissolve the flour, avoiding burns to your hands.

When the mixture is well mixed, use your hands to knead the dough. If the dough is too dry, gradually add each spoonful of boiling water to make it easier to shape the dough.

You will knead the dough until it forms a cohesive, soft, and non-sticky mass, which is the desired outcome.

  • Shaping the Tapioca Pearls

You will start by breaking off small pieces of dough to shape the tapioca pearls to your preferred size.

Then, sprinkle some tapioca flour into the bowl containing the shaped pearls and shake gently to coat the outside evenly with the flour, preventing the pearls from sticking together.

  • Boiling the Tapioca Pearls

Place a pot on the stove, add about 500ml of water and put in the amount of tapioca pearls that you need. Boil over medium-high heat until the pearls float to the surface, then continue to boil for about 3 – 4 more minutes, then remove and place in cold water for about 30 seconds before transferring to a strainer to drain.

The shaped tapioca pearls that have not been boiled and are not needed can be stored in the fridge refrigerator. When needed, just take them out and boil as described above to use them normally!
