Soak the rice and cook the sticky rice
You put the sticky rice into a basin or a colander with small holes (to prevent the rice grains from falling through) and rinse it with water 2 – 3 times. Then soak the rice for at least about 4 hours for the rice to expand and soften, drain the water and let the rice dry.
Next, add 1/2 teaspoon of salt to the rice and stir well, then put it in a steaming pot with about 200ml of water. Turn on low heat and steam the rice for about 20 – 30 minutes.
During the steaming process, about every 10 minutes, open the lid and stir well to ensure the rice cooks evenly.
